“A gate commissioned for Kings Forest Primary School. Features intricate web design and hidden wildlife sculptures including a bat, bird, and insects.”
Commissioned for the entrance of King's Forest Primary School, this bespoke stainless steel gate serves a dual purpose: providing secure, functional access while acting as an educational art piece that welcomes the students each morning.
The design departs from traditional vertical railings, utilizing a dynamic, geometric frame to suggest a wetland landscape. Tall, stylized bulrushes rise from the bottom edge, contrasting with the sharp, jagged angles of the surrounding steel. Woven into this environment is a large, central spiderweb, acting as a focal point for a hidden ecosystem of miniature sculptures.
Hidden throughout the gate, students can discover a variety of native wildlife. A large, heavily textured bat swoops across the upper frame, its smooth wings contrasting against its bead-welded body. Lower down, a tiny bird sits tight in a woven metal nest, while an intricately detailed insect navigates the stems of the bulrushes. This piece transforms a mundane security feature into a daily point of discovery.
