"The Molecule of Life" is a series of handcrafted steel candlesticks that take the form of the DNA double helix. This structure is the fundamental code for all known life, and these pieces serve as a functional tribute to that universal biological foundation.
Utilizing the strength and flexibility of steel, I sought to replicate the rhythmic, twisting grace of the sugar-phosphate backbone and the horizontal base pairs that bridge the two strands. Rising from a circular, rooted base, the helices terminate in twin candleholders, allowing the play of firelight to cast long, intricate shadows of the "code" across the surrounding space. These works move beyond the purely anatomical, offering a more abstract reflection on the origins and interconnectedness of the natural world.
