“A stainless steel sculpture of a Nile crocodile hatchling emerging from its egg.”
The Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is one of Africa’s most formidable apex predators, yet its life begins in a state of extreme vulnerability. This sculpture captures the precise moment of a hatchling emerging from its egg, a delicate transition between the protective shell and the harsh realities of the riverbank.
Crafted from stainless steel, the piece emphasises the tactile contrast between the smooth, polished surface of the egg and the emerging, rugged texture of the crocodile’s scales. Originally created to sit atop "The Fence"—the boundary wall of my own home—this life-sized study serves as a permanent exploration of resilience and the beginning of a predatory legacy.
